An Introduction of Myself
Roman Fatica
Let’s start of with a basic introduction of myself and what I’m all about. I am Roman Fatica, a 28 year old on a journey to pursue and learn new talents with a focus on anything and everything tech. Ever since I could remember I was tearing electronics apart and putting them back together, installing every Linux distribution under the sun onto scrap laptops just for fun, and generally acting as the typical “IT Guy” for all my family and friends.
To tell you a little about my personal life without getting too personal I’ll start with some of my education. I finished high school in 2014 and left for a trade school to become an Aviation Mechanic. I know, I rushed into a decision too quickly when leaving school considering this has nothing to do with my interests. The promise of money was tempting though and I did complete most of the certifications and became a certified FAA Powerplant Mechanic. I have never used this certification as I realized that the hours I’d put into it wasn’t worth it if I couldn’t do what I wanted to do. Of course after that I had no idea what to do next and worked what jobs I could. Fast Food, Retail, Side Jobs, and now to top it all off I work at a cemetery. Yes a cemetery. I’ve stuck with this job for awhile as it’s been a very rewarding job with a good company and great co-workers. Plus I was able to move into management. Well that’s where I am at now and I’m focusing on the future and learning new things everyday.
Currently I am dipping my toes into setting up a home lab using Proxmox and an old used hp workstation PC.
I’ve had a blast learning how to run my own VPN, setup a NAS, run various game servers from a server manager on my home server, hosting a media server for all my locally saved media to cast throughout the house. Of course I am now also starting this site.
I have a habit of getting excited about learning new things and have a tendency to jump from one thing to another. At first I hated this because I never truly mastered anything. Lately though I’ve come be happy with that part about myself because I have been able to see a little bit of many sides of the tech world. I’ve tried to dabble in many things, such as:
Cybersecurity / Ethical Hacking
Learning C#, Python, HTML, CSS , JS
Using almost all the major Linux distros and learning Linux
Diving into computer hardware and how it really works on a deeper level
Networking and server management
Video Game / App Development
and the list goes on..
What I hope to accomplish with this site/blog
I have always had an interest in thought of starting my own site and a blog. I plan to make regular posts about technical topics and most likely many product reviews and my thoughts on some of the best tech out there.
My Blog Content
Most of my blog content will be centered around budget tech and how you can save some money by not buying the things you don’t need. There are plenty of products out there trying to get you to spend thousands of dollars on tech that you can get the same or better experience from a cheaper product or service.
